Every year, Macy’s in Herald Square puts on a huge flower exhibition called Art in Bloom. This show has been going on in some form or another since 1946. It first started out as potted plants, but has since expanded to a huge spectacle with millions of flowers and countless local vendors and florists participating to transform Macy’s from a department store into an amazing flower landscape, straight from the whimsical pages of Alice in Wonderland.
This year, the show runs from March 22-April 4. Over the course of the two weeks, there were countless events and classes held at Macy’s. Unfortunately, with a busy spring schedule and regular work hours, I was unable to make it to any of the fun painting and flower arranging classes and had to settle for just wandering around the massive store and looking at all of the beautiful flowers. I headed there one day after work to try and beat the weekend rush (but, really, the world’s largest Macy’s is always crowded).
