I’m happy to introduce a new, (hopefully) weekly series to the blog! Weekends are the best time of the week, duh. During the work week, it’s hard to get out and explore and take advantage of all the fun things that are going on around the city. I always try to do at least one fun, new thing each weekend but it’s even better if you can jam-pack them full of awesome stuff! In an effort to force myself to do this, I’m decided to come up with a schedule each week for my weekend wanderings.
And, while I’m most likely never going to get to everything that I come up with for every weekend, I function much better with a game plan. So here is this weekend’s wandering agenda: On Saturday, Brooklyn! Sunday is supposed to be sunny and awesome so definitely some perfect weather for exploring.
Expect some upcoming posts with info about all of the places I actually make it to, and we’ll see if the weekend ends up as jam-packed as I’m planning for.
Saturday, August 6
Brooklyn’s on the agenda for today. This weekend, Summer Streets is happening from 7am to 1pm. All of Park Avenue shuts down and you can run, bike or walk the entire way from 72nd Street down to Brooklyn Bridge. Here’s the plan of attack: take the subway downtown to Houston Street, hop on a CitiBike and head across the Brooklyn Bridge.
In my entire time in NYC I’ve never actually gone to the Brooklyn Bridge, though I’ve seen it from afar. I’m pretty stoked to finally check it out and also be able to bike around Manhattan without being afraid I’m going to get mowed down by a taxi. Win-win.
After getting to Brooklyn, we’re planning a potential pitstop at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg because fooooood. Seriously, though, have you seen these waffle ice cream cones? Or the rain drop cake? Or literally any other Instagram food craze? All at Smogasburg.
From there, we’re heading to Extra Fancy for some froźemonade – yes, you guess correctly. Frozen rosé lemonade. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted. Plus they’ve got what looks like a bangin’ outdoor patio and a huge raw bar selection, which is helping with my newly uncovered love of oysters. Sipping on some dranks and slurping oysters makes for a pretty great afternoon.
After nomming and enjoying some vino slushies, the plan is to potentially head to Output. Apparently they’ve got a pretty awesome rooftop. Though the weather is supposed to be touch and go on Saturday, a little rain never hurt anyone. Plus, that’s what raincoats and umbrellas are for, right?
Sunday, August 7
I’m hoping to make it to Café Henrie this weekend as well. It’s a blogger haven because of it’s pink tables, cute menu and all around Instagram-able vibe. Though this early morning motivation to get out of bed and down to the Lower East Side is all dependent on how Saturday night turns out. The hangover struggle may be very real depending on what goes down.
The weather is supposed to be on point Sunday – sunny and low 80s. I’m not one to turn down a perfect day for laying in Central Park with a good book, so I think that may be on the agenda this weekend after a visit to Café Henrie.
Depending on if I can rally a crew, this could also mean a possible beach day – Long Beach is only 40 minutes by train and $23 for roundtrip train tickets and beach admittance. That’s also pretty hard to turn down, so we’ll see what happens.
The Sunday scaries will inevitably set it, so Sunday night will most likely be filled with some prep for the week and binging on the Olympics. Hopefully I’ll also be putting together some blog posts of the spots I’ve visited throughout the weekend.
Any suggestions or places to check out in Brooklyn are really welcome – I’m not that familiar with the neighborhood and would love some recommendations from people who know what’s up. Give me the deets in the comments below or on Instagram.
