Hello! Welcome to The Naturalized New Yorker – my first attempt at getting back into the writing game after being on hiatus since last May. I graduated from college last year with a degree in journalism, and my dream was always to move to the Big Apple and work as a writer or freelancer – AKA something that always looks super glamorous in movies. So, to get in my daily quota of creative writing and to scratch the writing itch I’ve been having since last summer, I decided to start a blog.
Now, I know a lot of people – my roommate included – will say, “Start a blog? Like a blog blog?” And, no. I don’t want a fashion blog where I take pictures of myself in outfits I wouldn’t actually wear and post it for fashion-y people to read. And, while I love those blogs and read tons of them, it’s just not my personality to do something like that. So, I’m deciding to take an alternate route.
In an effort to learn more about New York, the different neighborhoods, and give me and excuse to eat a bunch of delicious food, I want to explore the city and check out new spots. Whether they’re under-the-radar dive bars, popular restaurants, vintage shops, coffee shops, anything, I’ll go there and write about it. I’ve got a little list going for myself, but if anyone has suggestions of places to check out, please let me know! I’m game for anything, anywhere, in any of the boroughs. It’s time for me (and whoever I drag along with me) to get out of my standard 10-block radius in Upper East Side and find some new favorite spots.
Stay tuned for all the awesome and (potentially) awful places I find and probably some embarrassing photos of me, my roommate and my friends, and semi-decent photos of delicious food – they’re headed your way soon!
